About Sabar

Keep calm and just Sabar

Sabar is a Senegalese dance and musical tradition originating with the Wolof ethnic group. However, since Senegal’s Independence from French colonial rule in 1960, Sabar has become an idiom of the national identity of all the Senegalese, not least through the simultaneous and vastly spreading popularity of the Mbalax music genre, pioneered to the global music industry by the likes of Youssou N’Dour, Ismael Lo, Baaba Maal, Pape Diouf, Coumba Gawlo, Cheikh Lo and many, many more.
